"Every Asian person I know (especially Asian women) has gotten the question, "Where are you really from?" and knows exactly what it means. It's a coded way of saying, "What's your ethnicity?" but it really demands to know, "Why aren't you white?" My song Where Are You Really From?" is the sassy response to that classic othering question, and my hope is that it can help others who have been in a similar situation feel seen and heard. It also features fellow mixed race artist Jenni Rudolph, who is half Asian as well" -Sarah Matsushima
